The first site in Japan to be registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage (in 1993), Yakushima Island（屋久島）boasts pristine nature. It is home to Yakusugi Cedar trees（屋久杉）of more than a thousand years old, growing luxuriantly at Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravin（白谷雲水峡）, the Nagata Inakahama beach（永田いなか浜）, a world leading sea turtle spawning ground also known for its beautiful sunset, and the Ohko-no-Taki Waterfall（大川の滝）, a majestic waterfall of 88 metres where one can walk right up to its plunge pool.
