JR Kareigawa Station

JR Kareigawa Station

Opened in 1903, the JR Kareigawa station(嘉例川駅)is one of the oldest train stations in Japan still active today. This modest, tiled-roof wooden train station of more than a hundred years old is located amidst the lush green forests of Kirishima(霧島). The benches and waiting rooms are all constructed of wood, and the interior furnishing of classic wall clock and bulb lighting brings back memories of the Meiji days in the early 20th century.
