Tanegashima Island - Chikura Cavern

Tanegashima Island - Chikura Cavern

Chikura Cavern (千座の岩屋) is a large stone cave on the eastern shores of Tanegashima Island (種子島) and was created as a result of the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean. The name “Chikura no Iwaya “, or “Cavern of A Thousand Seats” originated from the fact that it is said the cave is so large, one thousand people could sit inside together.
