Rokugatsudo Summer Lantern Festivals

The Rokugatsudo Summer Lantern Festivals（六月灯）are held every year on the sixth month of the lunar calendar (the month of July in the Gregorian calendar) at shrines across Kagoshima. The shrine complexes are decorated with hand-drawn lanterns made from Japanese Washi paper, exuding mystical beauty. Terukuni Shrine（照国神社）in Kagoshima city holds the largest Rokugatsudo festival of all, attracting many visitors every year.
