The Flagstone Riverbed of Hanasegawa River

The Flagstone Riverbed of Hanasegawa River

Welded tuff (pyroclastic rock) from the Ata Caldera(阿多カルデラ)forms the riverbed of the 100 m wide, 2 km long Hanasegawa River(花瀬川). Water flowing above this uneven flagstone riverbed results in froth shaped like white flowers, hence the name Hanasegawa, which literally means “Flower Shallows River”.
