Ibusuki Salt Pan and the Tamatebako Onsen (Hot Spring)

Ibusuki Salt Pan and the Tamatebako Onsen (Hot Spring)

Further south from the Ibusuki(指宿)Sand Bath(砂むし温泉)is the Tamatebako Onsen(たまて箱温泉), an outdoor hot spring where visitors can enjoy a breathtaking paranomic view of the sea and the majestic Mount Kaimon(開聞岳)while taking a dip. Depending on the light direction and viewing angle, the hot spring can sometimes appear to merge as one with the vast sea. Next to the Tamatebako Onsen is the remains of salt pans(塩田跡), used in salt production for more than 20 years since 1943. Hot steam continues to rise around the salt pans.
