Kirishima Shrine

Built in the 6th century, the Kirishima Shrine（霧島神宮）honours the deity Niniginomikoto from the birth-myth of Japan. Passing through deep forest greenery, the approach leading to the shrine is lined with old cedar trees. Upon entering the shrine complex, one is greeted by the elegance and grandeur of the vermillion-lacquered shrine pavilions within.
